  1. There are no jobs in the military that have less of a chance for deployment than others--just because being one thing doesn't send you to Iraq, doesn't mean that your specialty won't get you deployed to some other hellhole. Although, being in the Canadian army, you may not get deployed nearly as frequently as other countries do.  As a soldier, you are making a choice to do whatever you have to to defend the people you live with--are you saying that if they asked you to put your life on the line for them you wouldn't?  Then you have no business being a soldier.  If the entire nation asked YOU to be their hero, would you turn around and say "Well, I'd love to, but I really don't want to be deployed"? Soldiers don't think that way.  Your citizens may not know your name, and may never learn it, but if you make the choice to act as their protector, you have to go all the way.  You should never join the military just because they pay for your school and give you a snappy uniform.  You will have a job to do, and it will require that you be ready to die.  I'm sorry.

  2. The chances are high in all trades and arms I'm afraid, you can't really be a serviceman and not take the risks as do us all. The rewards are worth it and knowing you've done the right thing is a good feeling. However, it's not for everyone and everyone is different. There are many exciting engineering careers out there that offer plenty of adventure without military service, look around a little. But be honest with yourself and don't join because of the 'image' as it were of serving Queen and country, there must be a basis of altruism and your reasons must be genuine, it's not all about just being proud and lives are depending on your sacrifice whether anyone ever sees it or not. If you are firm on serving, then the risks of deploying to operations are part and parcel. You have plenty of time to think about it and research options, take it and be patient. Good luck.

  3. It's ok not to want to go to war, I wanna be a Red Arrow but to do so I have to go on an Operational tour to do so.

I'm sorry to say that when your the employee you have to do what your superior tells you, if you don't wanna go to war maybe you could argue back but I think that might put your job a little on the line.

Probably not much help, sorry :(

    Your friend,

    Future Red.

  4. If you join the Military you can't decide which war you fancy joining in with, if that was the case there would be no deployment.

If you are serving your country in a military capacity you will be liable to be deployed (It may never happen though)

Your best bet would be to Join the Swiss or Icelandic defence force, they very rarely deploy.

  5. You can be deployed in any job.  You might not be deployed to the middle of the battle field.  However, one to stay out of harms way would be Finance.  But, check with your local recruiter.
