minerals are solid substances that are found in rocks. Some rocks contain only one mineral, but generally rocks consist of a number of minerals. Different minerals are identified by a variety of factors, including their characteristic crystalline formation and their hardness. Although some can be identified by color, many are white or colorless or, like amethyst, occur in a variety of shades.

  2. You answered your own question. For some other information to add to that examples of a mineral are gold, platium, timber, iron ore, alumium, etc. It also isn't a gas or liquid.
