  1. A mission trip is for spreading God's Word and love to areas that may not know of the Bible (such as foreign countries that have religions not based on Jesus) or in areas where the population is poor and have lost their own faith and to help out the community.

A lot of churches took groups to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina and helped clean up the mess, hand out clothes and food to those who'd lost their homes, and even helped to rebuild homes.

Some church groups have play groups for children that involve lessons from the Bible, games, and crafts, like an after-school program type of thing but typically done in the summer time.

When I was a teenager we went to downtown Atlanta and did Bible groups for children, wore clown costumes and went around the neighborhoods handing out balloons and bags of nutritious snacks, worked with the church mission that was already in the area - cleaning rooms, running events, singing at services - and we also cleaned apartments for the elderly.

It really depends on the church,  the number and ages of people that go along, where they have gone and what needs done as to what they actually do.
