  1. A 'mulligan' in golf, is of course, a "do-over" - after hitting a bad shot, take a 'mulligan' and try again. It's just like saying, 'take another shot, without any penalty incurred', that is if you're playing amongst friends/buddies. But in golf rules there is no such thing as a 'mulligan', once hit you've to pay for your mistake.

  2. It's a convention in social golf - *not* in the official rules - in which a botched shot can be re-taken without penalty.  Even in an informal setting, there are usually limits to how many and when you can take mulligans.

  3. It's a re-hit of a poorly struck shot.  Usually it's taken after a bad Tee-off.  It's purely an agreement between the group and normally limited to one per round or perhaps one per side.  I have seen 'fun' tournaments where golfers can 'buy' a mulligan or two for perhaps a buck or two to help offset some of the tournament costs.  There is nothing 'official' in the rules of golf allowing a mulligan.

  4. The " mulligan" is a feature found in a friendly match, determined before hand, that a person can do over a poor shot. The second shot should not be recorded for handicap purposes , but it usually is. In most cases there is only one mulligan allowed for the 18 holes.

  5. its a redo of a shot. you take a mulligan when you hit a bad shot. mulligans aren't legal though and they are only used when playing golf for fun, not in competition
