I would like it if your recommendation is a fairly common type of plant so that I may purchase it a wallmart, or home depot.

I preffer it to have a rejuvinating aroma.

I live in hot Arizona, but prefer a plant that can relax in my air conditioned living room w/out too much demand for sunlight other then the light which comes in through the windows each day- that would be ideal!

PS I would appreciate it if you share a plant that you have personal experience with and leave some watering tips etcetera. Thanks

  1. Maybe try some Pampas Grass or Dwarf Pampas Grass.

Put it in a wooden pot or barrel outside and you might never have to look after it... ever....ever.

  2. I have to say that if you are searching for a practical and inexpensive solution to your problem, you could always try purchasing a ficus plant.  They require little maintenance and can survive in most light conditions.  A ficus will not give an aroma, however.

  3. Any type of Cactus.  Even the grocery stores carry smaller varieties.

  4. A mother in law tongue or snake plant (same plant). These plants are nearly indestructable.  They will grow in any light conditions with little water.  They only need watering twice per month during the summer season and once per month or less in the winter. Basically water them one to two times per month and they will be happy.  About the only way to kill these plants are to water them too much in combination with cold. This causes the roots to rot. They reproduce by sending up babies from the soil so you will have tons of plants that you can give away or start in another pot.

You can find these plant at any store...including Wal-mart.  They only need to be transplanted after they either break the pot that they are in or you see the pot bulging or sometimes I have seen them push themselves out of their pots. I enlcosed a picture....you have seen these plants all around...I'm sure.

They come in a solid green color and a varigated variety with yellow-green margins...I provided a picture of both.. I have had one of these plants for about 8 years now.  They will grow to over 4 feet tall and will bloom only when they are really pot bound. The flowers have a sweet smell.

  5. I have several "lucky bamboo" plants. Scientific name is Dracaena sanderiana. It is actually not real bamboo but it is very low maintenance. It's a very beautiful plant and it does not have to be grown in soil, it can be grown in rocks or decorative orbs. The only water it needs is to be filled just above the rocks when the water runs out.

Which is about once a week.

I have many different house plants and this is by far the best in any season.
