i live in Houston Tx and volunteering for this project. But what are the native trees? websites?

It's important to plant natives, because they are well adapted to your local climate, so they require less water and care to survive than an imported exotic. They are also more resistant to native insect pests and diseases, and more attractive to beneficial native wildlife, like birds and butterflies.
