  1. if u figure $8.00 a sq ft installed u will get a medium grade hardwood.....

    lic. gen. contractor

  2. h**l if i know

  3. Around $3-5 per square foot plus that again for the install.

  4. You would be looking at approximately $8.00 a square foot. For site finished floors this would include sanding the floor, staining and 3 coats of polyurethane. The flooring itself is usually white (or red) oak Select or "clear" grade. Installers do not like to work with cheap grades of hardwood flooring. Too much time spent aligning poorly milled wood, waste, and boards that will not pass a customers close scrutiny  (defects, irregular grain, knotholes).

Prefinished would be the same price unless a certain brand or species (exotic) hardwood is desired.

You could save some money by removing the carpet, padding and tack strips (used to hold carpet in place) yourself. It is relatively easy, no expensive special tools are required, and can be done in a weekend.^

  5. Hardwood flooring varies so much that it's difficult to give even a ballpark price.

You can get hardwood flooring or laminate for as little as $1.50/square foot.  A great place to look for bargains is http://www.lumberliquidators.com

But hardwood floors can go as high as $7 to $10/square foot.  These prices are generally for specialty floors like hand-scraped wood, or sustainable wood floors like bamboo.

  6. Depends on the flooring you select.......type, quality, etc.  I recently priced some at Lowe's and it ranged from $1.99 to $3.97 per square foot.  That does not include the moisture barrier padding or installation.
