What is a normal range for blood sugar?

I had always though between 80 and 120 was normal, but if I get below 100 I start feeling dizzy. I am on new meds and it has been up and down, from 50 to 190. I know it shouldn't be up and down like that.

  1. Blood sugars can be weird at times and very much individual only because what you eat in the AM doesn't show up on an accu check until the afternoon.

I used to work 3-11 then 11-7 and this one person's blood sugar would always be high in the afternoon at 4, so we would give her coverage with regular insulin, then I had to watch out about 1-2 AM because her sugar would begin to drop and if I waited by 6:30AM to take her Accu Check, as I did one time, by then she needed glucagon, a polypeptide hormone that has the property of increasing the concentration of the glucose in the the blood.

It depends so much on what you eat and when you eat.  Its too difficult with so few details to tell you.  I used to take care of lots of diabetics as a nurse.

I take it you know what to eat and what not to eat.  If you exercise that burns up some energy or carbs.

I would have to know more of how you eat and your activity level in order to say why your's is going up and down.  Are you skipping meals?

Try eating more fiberous foods so they stick with you and see if that doesn't help.  Also try low glycemic foods, they slowly raise your blood sugar, but stay with you.  Just type in low glycemic foods on Google.

    Yes, 80-120 is the norm.

  2. Doc put me on byetta it keeps your nunbers in a better range like the 80 to120

  3. My Dr. said for me to stay between 80 and 120, before I eat and 1 hr. after I eat.

  4. normal is 70-110.  If your body is used to a certain blood sugar (like 190), then your body will be shocked when it gets below 100 because it is not used to it. Your body will have to adapt.  Also this will happen if your blood sugar is lowered to quickly.  This process needs to be slow so your body won't be shocked and your body can adjust.
