  1. 1. Lawyer, 2. Solicitor are the meanings.  You have written the french word correctly.

  2. In France, you are obliged to ask to a "notaire" to do some operations in connection with law, such as buying or selling a house (or a flat), and doing a succession when someone die.

Also if you want to register an official gift or a testament and many other things like that.

So they have an official charge and they have more or less the same degrees as lawyers or judges.

  3. It is the French word for NOTARY as in Notary public.

    Lawyer is --Avocat

Both close to Spanish  Notario and Abogado

Someone must have told you you need A notarized permission to travel as a minor by yourself.

  4. the exact equivalent does not exist outside of france but a notaire is closer to an american attorney than a notary public. they hold a 7 year law degree and handle matters such as real estate closings, prenups and all kinds of legal contracts and transactions which are done by real estate or business attorneys in the us. they don't deal with criminal justice though, this is the job of an avocat (lawyer).
