What is a pacification run?(VIETNAM)?

i know the definition of Pacification run is in the book Fallen Angel, but i dont know where. i know it has something to do with Vietnam.

  1. As best as I can understand, pacification runs are operations to kidnap, capture and/or torture key opposition personnel in certain regions of South Vietnam. By removing certain people, the region or area would become “pacified”. Most of these operations were done by C.I.A. or U.S. special force.
