  1. The Palm Zire 71 is a consumer-oriented PDA first announced in 2003,

It was the first Palm handheld to have a built-in digital camera, which pops open via a slider mechanism.  The camera was ok for its time but is pretty low resolution by todays standards... just 0.3 Mpixels.

The PDA can also be used as an MP3 player (but you had to buy headphones separately).

It only has 16 MB of memory but it supports SD cards for additional storage. At the time of its announcement, it was the top of the line for the Palm consumer products (the business products had more features, though).

It also comes with the standard Palm PIM suite... Address Book, Date Book, To Do, Memo.  The Palm PIM software is actually pretty good - very fast, responsive, and lots and lots and lots of third party applications work on the Palm platform.

What it DOESN'T have... Bluetooth or WiFi, so no way to connect to a cell phone or get Internet / eMail access on this. No microphone for voice recording.  No video recording.

You can get replacement batteries from www.gethightech.com (who are good people who've been around for a long time).  They cost about $20 US and the website has step-by-step instructions on how to dismantle a Zire 71 to replace the battery.

They'll repair it themselves if you want... but it would probably cost about $50 US which may not be cost effective.  Zire 71 are available on eBay for about $ 50 - 70 US.

EDIT - oh, wait, sorry, you said replace the CHARGER, not the battery!  Chargers for Zire 71 are available on eBay for about $10 US.
