  1. A traditional patriot is a person with an overwhelming belief in the constitution and country and is willing to sacrifice "their lives, their fortunes and their honor" in defense of their constitution and country.

Today? If not the same as above them what? A member of a football team. ; D

  2. What many people percieve a patriot as being a person with profound nationalism and will do anything to help or protect their country.

I see it as a term to get people to bow down to their country and almost worship it.

    Im not very patriotic.

"Dissent Is The Highest Form Of Patriotism"

  3. The traditional sense is for someone to have respect for their country to have a feeling for it to want to protect though this should not be taken to mean nationalism. The person would want to protect it in whichever way that may be by either civil disobedience or war.  The problem is warfare became to be seen as the traditional way to be a Patriot.  Today it could mean to prevent Global Warming, support democracy in the nation. The Patriot could be Patriotic by helping Society through a Socialist way or at least to make a new addition of a party. The Patriot also may show it by having respect for other humans who through no fault of their own have to sneak into The U.S.. The Patriot then would show Patriotism by moving to strike down  conditions in the nation of The Patriot which cause such things to happen.  The Patriot can show Patriotism by running for office.

  4. A nationalistic person from the American point of view

  5. Traditionally, a patriot is someone who is willing to, as the Founding Fathers did, pledge life, fortune, and honor to defend the Constitution and principles of their country.

Present-day, I would argue that the definition has not changed.  The word "patriot" has been hijacked by various organizations and institutions, but believe such hijacking only changes the meaning if we allow it to.

  6. Obama

  7. In a traditional sense, it's someone who will stand up and fight for freedom and what they know is right, in todays usage???  It's a word Bush has used to make it seem as though anyone standing up for freedom, and the right to privacy is somehow unpatriotic.
