A study done to document the pedestrian traffic at a point of interest over time.  This is similar to a traffic count at an interesction to document traffic patterns.  Downtown associations are interested in the amount of people int he area at various time might use the information to extend or shorten store hours. See the ped count done by Indianpolis below.  Hope this helps.
