What is a penthouse?

all i know is that it is built on the roof top of a building, but other than that, anything special?

they said is expensive, how to tell from it?

here it usually means that you have a large roof terrace or better views - not always bigger accommodation. Top floor - means only sky above ! no one clunky round in stilletos at 3 am or kids running around above you. More peaceful definately worth the extra.

It is the top floor of a multi-storey building. Whereas the lower floors are divided into several separate  tenancies, a penthouse is designed for only one tenancy.
