  1. In simple terms, a non-American residing in the USA who holds a green card/

  2. American National is a person born in USA.

Permanent Resident Alien is a person from another country who immigrated to this country and has permanent residenence here.

  3. a permanent resident is someone with a greencard that is legally allowed to live in the US but doesnt have to become a citizen... for example my husband is from Mexico and he is a Mexican citizen, but he can live and work in the US legally without losing his Mexican citizenship.

  4. An alien who has temporary or permanent residence in a country (which is foreign to him/her) may be called a resident alien of that country.

  5. American citizen: somebody who was born or naturalized in the US

American National: somebody who is a national of a US territory (American Samoa, etc.)

Permanent resident alien: somebody who immigrated to the US legally and has a "green card"

  6. An American National is a person that has citizenship either by birth or by naturalization in the U.S. or any of it's territories.

A permanent resident alien is someone who has a greencard which basically allows one to live here "permanently" it's good for 10 years and you have to re-apply for another greencard before the expiration of the 10 years or apply for citizenship (naturalization).

A naturalized citizen is one that wasn't born here but obtains citizenship through immigration.

  7. american national was born in america and that is there residence

permanent alien is someone who came to america and it is their permananent residence

  8. US nationals are people born in certain American territories or possession but who do not get citizenship at birth.

For example, natives of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands are US citizens, but natives of American Samoa (for example) are US nationals, not citizens. Nationals don't get to vote in the elections but otherwise enjoy most of the privileges conferred to US citizens, including carrying a US passport.

Of course and by definition, US citizens are eligible to work where US nationals are allowed to work. US citizens are always US nationals, but US nationals are not US citizens.

See the definition over there: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/8/1408...

A permanent resident is simply a person who has a green card, meaning it could be a national of any country in the world.

  9. An alien admitted to the United States as a lawful permanent resident. Permanent residents are also commonly referred to as immigrants; however, the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) broadly defines an immigrant as any alien in the United States, except one legally admitted under specific nonimmigrant categories (INA section 101(a)(15)). An illegal alien who entered the United States without inspection, for example, would be strictly defined as an immigrant under the INA but is not a permanent resident alien. Lawful permanent residents are legally accorded the privilege of residing permanently in the United States. They may be issued immigrant visas by the Department of State overseas or adjusted to permanent resident status by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in the United States.

  10. An American National is someone who is and always has been living in America. They must have been born there.

A Permanent Alien however is somebody who lives permanently in America but who has not always lived there.

As Hawaii is a State of America you will still be classed as an American National if you move there.
