What is a plot summary and how do you write one?

I need to write a 100 word plot summary on the book MONSTER by Walter Dean Myers. I know what a plot and a summary is but I'm not sure what a plot summary is. I also think 100 words is not enough to completely explain the book. Can you tell me what it is and how to write one?

Here's what i have so far, is it good?:

Steve Harmon was arrested and charged with felony murder. He was accused of being involved in a drugstore stick- up where the owner was killed. James King and Steve Harmon were put on trial for this case. Steve says that he didn’t do it.

the plot summary is just summarizing the story in your words.

think about the plot... IE..... Of Mice and Men

to summarize the plot of this you would write

Two cousins who had grown up together set off to make their fame and fortune.  they begin working on a farm where mischevious things go on.  One thing that happens is George finds his cousin in trouble when he killed the bosses sons wife.  George sends his cousin off to the woods, to hide.  George and the other men go out on a man hunt to find his cousin.  In the end, George ends up killing his cousin to save his life.  

this is a must read novel if you have not read it.

You're on the right track, but you want to stay away from details.

While your writing it, think about who, what, when, where. Only briefly touch on why. They don't want to know about all the details.

Make sure you explain from cover to cover. Start with the first chapter and end with the last. You want to inform on the whole book :)
