What is a potting box and what is it used for?

I think you are referring to plantings.

Potting box(es) are used to start baby seedlings, and it is mainly made from recycled paper. After the seedlings have grown, you transplant the whole thing (seedling + potting box) into a larger pot. The seedling would not be "hurt" by any rough handling, and the potting box degenerates inside the soil of the outer pot allowing the roots to grow and extend inside the latter.
