  1. engine, transmission and rear end, it's called the drivetrain.

  2. Usually, engine, transmission and rear end unless it is a four wheel drive and then it includes the transfer case or front wheel drive the transverse differential.

  3. You are speaking about the power train warranty.

This is a tricky area for most consumers who do not work on vehicles regularly. Generally speaking, the power train is anything that has to do with the movement of the vehicle. This would be the engine, transmission, transmission (rear wheel drive), transaxle (front wheel drive), and the final drive and axles.

These are usually the most expensive failures that occur on any vehicle. But you have to read the powertrain warranty very clearly to understand it completely.

Some powertrain warranties do NOT cover gaskets and seals. Others do. This doesn't make a lot of sense because they are actual parts of the powertrain. This has created a lot of confusion in the past.

Then there are other scenarios. Say a non covered part fails and causes damage to a covered part. Say for instance the basic warranty has expired, but the powertrain warranty is still in effect. The radiator is covered under basic warranty which has now expired. The radiator fails and causes engine damage. Would the engine be covered since the powertrain warranty is still in effect? No, it would not.

Read your powertrain warranty very carefully!
