On level ground, what is a good radius for bicycle commuting? Would you say no more than 10 miles? Or is 15 miles too much?

  1. I ride to work, about 3 miles.  It takes 15 minutes.  It would depend on the roads and how good a shape you are in, also.

  2. like svoman said, depends on how much time you want to spend commuting.

I bike to work. It's only 1.3 miles for me. Takes about 6 or 7 mins.

For me I wouldn't want to spend more than 30 or 40 minutes.

  3. it depends on how much time you want to spend commuting and how fast you can ride.. at 15 mph, a good speed for a novice, one hour is a bit much.  So I would say buy a very good bike, it makes a lot of difference, and work your speed up to what you need.

So 10 miles is the lot for a amateur and 15 is nothing to a pro...
