I was looking for flights to Portland, Oregon from June 30-July 9th and all they have left are premium seats? What are these, and do they cost more? (They are in coach) Also, I tried to purchase online but it will not allow me to do so..how do I go about purchasing a premium seat?

  1. If you are talking about seating assignments, generally the "premuim" seats are closer to the front (like the bulkhead) and frequent flyers get first dibs before the general flyer can get those assignments.

  2. What constitutes a "premium seat" depends on the airline.  No one here can tell you exactly what you'd get without knowing which airline you're referring to, simply because some airlines' definition of a premium seat is different.  (United, for example, considers its Economy Plus section to be a premium seat and charges more for it, because of extra legroom.  American and other airlines don't have premium seats in coach, except for bulkhead and exit row seats that are generally available to its elite flyers).

Despite what the other person answering this question wishes to believe, not all airlines in the US have the same idea when it comes to premium seating.  Hence, an accurate answer to the question can only be given if further information is given regarding the airline in question.
