  1. Honestly...

The prettiest horses to me...are the ones that work with their riders as a team.  Where neither the horse or the rider are working with two different 'mind sets.'

Where it appears that the horse and rider just 'know' what each other is thinking and they move together like that.  Doesn't appear to be any visual physical communication with each other.

This could be a top of the line dressage horse of any breed...or a grade mixed 'mutt' of a horse on the trail.

I had a lop eared, cow hocked, pigeon toed, short backed, short necked, rat tailed, roman nosed, appy 'thing.'...and I wish I could find another horse like her!  Steady as a rock and broke to death.  Could work cows or amble along a trail.  Not afraid of anything that I came across.

She was so ugly...people would make comments about it.  Was also so 'pretty' in her disposition and 'try' that many wished they had a horse just like her.

Don't know if this is what you were looking for...but it's what is pretty to me...

    **EDIT...I know this has been around...but it's a perfect example of a team...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgG_Gwy7Y...

  2. I would say a horse with excellent conformation and a level head is a pretty horse. A good coloration doesn't hurt. But as long as a horse is well put together and can think, it's pretty.

  3. I consider a pretty horse one that is conformationally correct, healthy, and loves the work that it does. The personality is agreeable and you can tell from the horses face that he is great. The horse is the epitomy of it's breed standards in showmanship, conformation, and trainabilty.

Here are my picks and why.

    1) My first pick and I've said this before, and perhaps it is because half my barn is filled with Shining Spark Offspring. But he is my first pick. Not only is he absolutely gorgeous, but his show standings show just how much this horse loves what he does.

    2) My second pick is the Friesian Stallion Romeo De Roza. You look into this horses eyes and you can see his greatness. His picture says it all.

    3) My third is Secretariat. Millions of people including the generations continue to fall in love with this horse, even if they never saw him race. He is just that charismatic.

    4)  Color Me Smart. Not only did this horse break the barriers for APHA in cutting. But his outstanding beauty and that all to familiar "goofball" disposition won the hearts of many when he passed this on to his offspring.

    5) And finally to end my list. One of the bests that continues to awe the horse world even after his death. But I give a standing ovation for Hollywood Dun It. Who's offspring are rocking the equestrian world.

  4. Arabs, Shires and Stallions are VERY pretty.

Like you said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and i really thinkk these horses are drop dead GORGEOUS!

  5. Here are a few of my picks. They are all Morgans.

  6. I think pretty horses are white ones, with rainbow manes and tails, and golden hooves.  And they must have a perfect star on their forehead.  And of course they must always be smiling!  Kind of like this...

  7. i think THE prettiest are spanish norman stallions, although i love any spanish trype horse.

    Like this one

    http://equine.com/horses-for-sale/horse-...

(you may have to copy and paste that)

they have gentle faces and very muscular and they just have a graceful look. Plus when they are white, grey or black, that makes it even better.

  8. i love horses, and think they all are beautiful creatures.

one that is highly regarded as the most beautiful of horses is the Arabian, though i think it has some competition with the Friesian.

  9. Andalusains are very very very pretty I think. But Friesian are the most beautiful. Go to this website and look at them ! You might even find a different horse that you like better. Hope this helps. I have 2 Tennessee Walking Horse's there also

    pretty.

  10. There are a lot of "head hunters."  You know, a pretty head and face and that's it.  But, you don't ride the head.

I think pretty is different.  My neighbors have a pretty belgian...big head, built like a tank...but breathtakingly lovely.  His coat is a rich coppery red and the flax mane and tale look like spun gold against it.  Even in harness, at work, he's a stunner.

    Look at this guy...

    http://www.stallionstation.com/ss/direct...

This is a great shot of him...I like his movement, his coloring of course...but in other photos the head is just so so.  Still, as a total package, I'd call him a pretty horse.

But here's a whole different kind of pretty...

    http://www.arabianbreeders.net/Forums/pr...

And here's yet another totally different version of "pretty."

    http://www.westrea-stud.co.uk/wild-dice-...

I think pretty is just to generic a term to define.

  11. beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

You get a preference of your type of horse so it all depends on what you like.

Persionally, i dont think coloured horses are that pretty... DONT GIVE ME THUMBS DOWN!!! they are just not my type of horse, i prefer the welsh, TB's and warmblood types.

  12. My alltime favorite horse is definitely the Quarter Horse not only are their attitudes so docile and sweet but they are Soo..... pretty. I wouldn't have any other horse.

Here are some links to pictures of Quarter horses.

    1. AQHA(American Quarter Horse Association) website

    2. Best-horse-photos.com

  13. I don't know how to post pictures and I don't want you to tell me how since I just don't want to do it.

A pretty horse is like a person who is good looking.....symmetrical, balanced and appealing to the eye.

For me it's each individual feature being attractive, and then being combined with the other features symmetrically so that the whole appearance is pleasant to look at.

With horses, when this appearance is present overall, the movement will also be appealing.

Using the head as an example, I look at each individual part, such as the eyes, nostrils, jaws, forehead, ears, and muzzle.

Then I look at how all of those parts fit together and look for symmetry...or balance.  Then I would move on to the neck, and do the same thing and so on ................

But I usually begin by looking at the whole horse, before I start picking everything apart. I look for condition....weight, coat, alertness, etc. and overall balance.

EDIT to ADD....when you ask for what makes a horse pretty, I assume you want to actually know what physical characteristics make the animal appealing.  If you want to know what makes a horse lovable or worth owning, that is a different question.

  14. arabs and pintos are most definently my favorite,

    this is my barn (:

look at the different pages of this for pictures of some gorgeous horses.

  16. To me a pretty horse to me is one that carries themselves well, they know that they are special. You can look at the horse and just tell there is something special about them.

Its one that shows their spirit and drive.

Their eyes are kind when you look into them, and have a sparkle to the side, letting you know that they still have not been "broken".

They were their heart for the world to see.

A horse that will let you cry into there neck, while they hug you back.

Its a horse that will run until his heart gives out if you ask them to.

A horse that is more tender to a child than the childs own parents.

And they can be in a pasture with other horses playing. But, you can't take your eyes off of him.

To me thats a pretty horse.

It doesn't matter what breed, s*x, color, or age. Its all about the horses mind and spirit.

  17. Pretty is a complete statement of opinion, but these are the qualities that I consider pretty-

Nice big eyes, preferably dark brown

large jaw, with a refined head and muzzle

small fluted ears with a nice long forelock cascading down

nicely slightly arched neck of a good length

    long thick tail

I love lots of different colors on a horse, but a dapple gray with a black mane and tail, a black with no chrome, or a blood bay are always good.  I am a total sucker for roans too!!

  18. muscle, good conformation, nice face,

  19. I tend to like the long lean looks.  Here's my boy.  Oh and of course if the temperament and gait isn't there then the ride is worthless.

  20. Hi.

Me personally.. I like to think 'pretty' in a horse is......

    Nice big, honest, alert eyes

A long flowing mane and tail

    A nicely held head

Good Action with a bit of bounce

    A good temperament

    Shiny coat

I like dapple greys, theres just something about them.

I do think Spanish horses are particulary pretty looking as they have all these qualities..

edit: Oh and I do think a nice bit of feathering around the fetlocks is cute!

  21. not to go off "subject" but Black Bunny, that video was just AWESOME!!! I feel sorry for the bull, but that horse was AMAZING!

  22. Well, a horse being pretty is really an opinion. Most of my barn loves arabs and thinks they are the most beautiful, but personally I hate them. I don't like the way they tail sticks up and just them.

this is what Pretty means to me:

    - A good conformation

    - Holds themselves well

    - Clean, smooth gaits

    - Glossy tail/mane

    - Short, shiny hair

  23. What's with the "head desk"?  You asked people what their idea of pretty is, and that's exactly what you're getting...

I am proud of and admire the looks of Kobus the friesian:

    http://www.lorickstables.com/Kobus.php

I'm also in love with this young TB:

    http://ottbs-online.com/ottbsonline/v/e_...

I also love any and all lipizzans at the SRS:

    http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/07Ry...

(Love their big heads and powerful little bodies.)

EDIT:  LOL the Opinion Trolls are out again passing out thumbs downs to people whose opinions are "wrong"!  Weirdos!

  24. Wow!  That's a big question.  Pretty horse means something different to everybody.  In my opinion the most beautiful horse is the Freisian.

    http://pets.webshots.com/photo/117122531...

    http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/phot...

Since I will probably never own a Freisian.....I think a pretty horse has a well made head that is proportionate to his body with a large liquid eye.  Speaking of body, I prefer a quarter horse type body with a large hip and nice shoulder.  Fit and tucked up belly with fine looking legs with plenty of bone and well made hooves, not too small or too big.  My favorite color is Buckskin or dun with Dark or black mane and tail and black on the legs that extends all the way past the knees or hocks.

    Hope this is specific enough.

  25. everyone picked a different type so i guess  what it comes down to is all horse ARE pretty.
