What is a promise ring?

1. whats the difference between a promise ring and a engagement ring

1- promise rings symbolize a promise to someone for faithfulness, abstinance or any promise to a friend like "we will meet again"

2- can mean a general promise to a person or a  promise to marry (like a pre-engagement engagement ring)

3- you make a promise, give it to the person and fulfill the promise.

4- you generally can wear a promise ring on any finger but depending on the "promise" you would wear it the same as an engagement ring (left ring finger).

5- any ring can be a promise ring

i think promise rings mean different things to different people, but in my experience the following are my answers

1) a promise ring is a promise of engangement. you get that later.

2) it's just a promise to take stay together until being engaged is what you want to be.

3)Most boys/men just give it to the girl as a gift, maybe with a sweet note/poem .

4) any finger you want really but most people wear it on the ring finger of the right hand.

5) Most jewlery stores sell them fairly cheap, usually less than $100.00. They are just small cute, plain rings.
