  1. The prostate gland is a small organ about 3 x 3 x 4 cm located below the bladder, shaped like an almond, encompassing the upper urethra or passageway of urine. Only males have the organ. The prostate enlarges in about 50% of men 50 y/o and above. One cause is cancer. In fact prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men 50 y/o and above --- more common than lung cancer in this age group. I suppose your grandpa is under the care of a uroligist. If his cancer is in its early stage, its curable by either surgery or radiotherapy. If it has spread to his bones or lungs, then all the doctor can do is give treatment that makes him confortable. Dont worry, this type of cancer is slow growing and many men can outlive their cancers if given proper treatment.

  3. The prostate literally "one who stands before", "protector", "guardian" is a compound tubuloalveolar exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system. Women do not have a prostate gland, although women do have microscopic paraurethral Skene's glands connected to the distal third of the urethra in the prevaginal space that are homologous to the prostate.

    The prostate differs considerably among species anatomically, chemically, and physiologically.

        * Posterior: urethra and r****m

        * Superior: upper surface of urogenital diaphragm and urinary bladder

        * Lateral: anterior fibers of levator ani muscle

    Hope this helps!!^^

  4. The prostate gland is right where all these guys are telling you.  It i's best accesed through the butt, thats why the prostate exam uses a camera shoved up there to check it out.

    Now what these guys are misleading you on is what it does.  They Prostate gland makes prostate fluid.  Thats the bulk of what comes out when you ejaculate, or in simpler terms make babies.  It is meant to lubricate and propell the s***n to aid in the baby making.

    Being a gland, it produces stuff.  Meaning it creates new cells.  Now as with any new cells there is a chance of mutation.  Especially with the prostate which produces alot of stuff, there is a chance that an ocasional mutated cell will be produced without an infamous gene known a P53.  It's been a while since biology, but I think it was P53.  That gene is what regulates a cell, and keeps it from multiplying out of control.  When that cell starts multiplying like crazy, and making "bad" cells, we call that canser.

    Hope the knowledge gives you a bit of understanding and comfort.

  7. Hi

    The prostate is a small gland that produces s***n. It is situated just below the bladder, so if when it enlarges (it does naturally in men over 40) then it can squeeze the urethra, the pee tube, and stop urination.

    Cancer of the prostate is a different type of enlargement of the prostate.

    The prostate is checked for enlargement and which type it is, either cancer or natural enlargement, by the doctor inserting a gloved finger up your a**s and feeling it through the anterior wall.

    Hope that explains what it is.

    Regards

    Andy
