  1. A digital TV is a TV that can receive digital broadcast signals. You will need to take action before February 17, 2009 if you currently watch TV on an analog TV set that is not connected to cable, satellite or other pay TV service. If you own a television with a digital tuner or subscribe to a pay TV service, you will likely continue to receive TV programming as usual after the transition.  To request a coupon for a $40 rebate on a converter box if you need one, or if you have questions, consumers can go online or call a 24-hour hotline at 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009)

  2. A Digital TV is a TV with a digital Tuner.

You DON'T need a digital TV by 2009, especially if you have already a set-top box from cable or satellite.

By 2009, You can buy a simple set-top box that converts over-the-air (antenna) digital signals to analog, so you can use the existing TV. If you need to buy a box, the goverment will give you a small rebate (up to $40).
