  1. A Quarter Horse is a breed of horse.  They're a very popular breed, especially in Western riding and first time horse owners, because of their calm, relaxed nature.  The Quarter Horse is also the preferred breed of ranchers and cowboys.

    And yes, they are known for their ability to sprint a quarter of a mile, hence their name the "Quarter Horse".  They have very powerful hindquarters that can propel them very quickly over a short distance!
