What is a "Data Entry Job"?

I'm talking about part time work but I'm not sure what I'd be doing in data entry

Typically this job would involve entering data currently on paper into a database so that it can be analysed electronically.

One example is when people fill in hand written questionnaires. Computers can pick up the ticks marks, but can't always read hand writing. You would be entering peoples comments onto a computer.

This "DATA ENTRY JOB" is not what you have in mind.  Its far from sitting infront of pc and inputting "datas".  The phrase "data entry" does not reflect what you will required to do.  Here is how it goes................

Once you joined this "Data Entry Job" program, firstly you will be asked to open a Pay Per Click advertising account with either Google, Yahoo, MSN or any other.  After opening an account, you will be supplied with a list of ads that you need to advertise with any of the search engine.  The most popular is Google Adwords.

You will be given long list of keywords that you need to bid in your pay per click campaign.  Mind you, if you do not have any knowledge on how pay per click works, YOU WILL GET BURNT!

If people doing a search click on your ads, you will be charged accordingly, depending on the amount you bid for the keyword.  If they buy the product you are advertising, then you will get paid, if not, you will end up with a huge advertising bills.

My advise is to stay away from such a program.  I have been throught it!!!   If you are indeed serious to make money online, acquire the knowledge and know-how of internet marketing.  Once you are equipped with the knowledge, you can sell practically anything online.  You will be surprised to know that there are lots of people making money online everyday.

Do lots of research on available programs before parting with your hard earned money as there are too many SCAMS circulating on the net.  There is no such thing as "Get Rich Quick" scheme.  This term does not exist in any kind of business.  Take your time to do some research and you will be in the safe path.

You will hear of a lot of people who claim to have found this work and are making a fortune. The only way they really make money is by getting others to pay them to find work - not by actual work.

There are data entry jobs available, but they are generally only available very locally. The pace of business today prohibits the type of data entry you remember from years back. However, there are always businesses which need to take analog data (maybe handwritten job applications, for example) and turn them into computer entries. Even with optical character recognition, there is still a need to data enter or verify what the system read. Occasionally, this work can be done from home once you've proven yourself with the employer.

Look for evening shifts for data entry (often found thru temp agencies) and once you've built a reputation, see if their servers can be accessed remotely so you could work from home. I think more and more of these jobs will be done at home, but they will extremely short time-lines, what comes in today needs to be in the system tonight, for example, with none of the flexibility you remember.
