  1. Disaster is just that a disaster.  Contingency is used to show it is put in place as a just in case it happens.  Plan is what you do when it happens.  Thus a Disaster Contingency Plan is a plan for what to do in a disaster.  It should include things like, providing food, water, medical aide and shelter to victims, evacuation routes, rebuilding, repopulating the affected area, and who is going to pay for it.

Look for things that have happened in your area, no part of the country is exempt from disasters.  Think about strong, large buildings you might be able to use, think about what food sources you have, grocery stores and such.  Think about medical services and who could help out, what happens if the hospital isn't available.  A basic plan would be simply, a disaster has happened, now how do we see to the basic needs of the victims, food, water, shelter, and medical care.

  2. It is a plan you develop to better prepare your company for a worst case scenario and a recovery plan for it.  Typically, these are needed for data centers (where lots of file servers and network equipment is kept).  So from a data center perspective, you do things such as ensure you have good backups, and send back up tapes off site, and have spare hardware (servers, etc), on standby in a nearby location in case your data center faces a disaster situation.  A survey might want to question what kinds of disasters can you face in your area, such as  tornados, earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding, etc.  It will vary based on your location.  Of course things like fire are a universal disaster concern for any location. Hope this helps.

  3. I guess many have already answered your question Anchal , hope that it worked.

  4. well i think the project also mentions ur skul or house...so u basically have to look wat kind of disasters that might strike home or skul for ex..in school high possibilities are of fire and computer circuit problems so fire equipment and first aid readily available.explain the role of ur sport teacher , scout and guide teachers and also take info from ur classmates who are scouts and guides

as for home gas leakage , fire again and water blockage during rainy season can be considered.if ur in an apt explain role of security guards and fire buckets, extinguisher etc

as for school make a map of the school blocks like say one for primary block ,secondary etc...the neater , the better ,if the sketch is good u'll get marks for presentation

refer to ur disaster textbuk...pages 59 to last i think....

    hopefully i've helped u..

and for surveys just ask ur neighbours if they know of any hazrd thatt struck ur area....and then make up some info on what they did to cope with it

  5. It's simply a plan of what you would do in the event of a disaster.  Say you're talking about a hurricane...power is going to be out for weeks, you could get flooded, or lose your roof or home, maybe no access to food or clean water for days...what would you do before, during and after the disaster to help yourself under those conditions?

  6. You need to know what natural disasters your area is prone to - tsunamis don't affect Kansas City, for instance.

You also need to know what man-made hazards are relevant, such as an office next to train tracks or a fuel storage depot, or a high-crime area.

The rest depends upon the who the contingency plan is for - a business, church, family, etc.

  7. The fact is, many communities don't have a disaster plan in effect.  That's a shame and very shortsighted - I'd say it's foolish.  To find out what your community has in the way of a Disaster Contingency Plan, go to your local fire department, police department, or public health agency and ask 'em.  Be careful and don't call the cops or the fire department on their emergency line.  They'll have another line for non-emergency calls.  When you get hold of 'em , tell 'em what you want to know and why - they'll probably be willing to help ya out.

Did you know YOU can be part of such a plan?  Darn right: there's a need for skilled communicators.  Check around and find your local ham radio club: those folks (us folks, I should say) do provide emergency backup for local and national disaster teams with their radios. YOU can learn to be a ham radio operator within a few weeks and get your license.  The hams at your club will show you how to use your radio skills in an emergency.  Better still - there is no age minimum.  After 9/11, a 12-year-old girl with her ham license borrowed her dad's radio and went to provide emergency communications at a shelter right down in New York just a little way from Ground Zero - and she was mighty welcome!   And YES - India has an active ham radio community; and you can do the same thing there!
