Can you please give me a website that tells me the uses and pictures of a "Floor beam" and a "Jois".

  1. It supports the load of all floors in your house. Its what the plywood is nailed to. It is attached to the sills above your houses foundation. It can be a two by 12 or a wooden i beam. Depending on the span you could see addtional support underneath in the middle of the joist.

    "Floor beam" and "Joist" are the same thing. They are the pieces that support the flooring.

  3. A beam is a timber or combination of 2x12s nailed together to span an area where joists are to be joined. The joists are the individual 2x8's and larger depending on the span without support. These would be considered stick built.

    Beams are considered to be load bearing therefore are much larger and stronger than a single joist. A beam can support as much as 1/2 the entire weight of the floor.
