What is a "Key race"?

I hear a lot of my friends talk about riding in key races, but what are they? thanks! :D

i'm pretty sure it is an event in the rodeo when you ride your horse into a key hole shape and you cant go out side the lines and if you do you get some sort of time penalty. And who ever can go in and out fastes wins

ok so it's called a keyhole race, and there is a piece of rope or paint of the ground 100 meters away from your horse, that look like a massive key hole. you gallop as quickly as you can up to it, go inside and the aim is to do a pivot or tight turn and gallop back to the finish line, without going out of the keyhole...Stock breeds are the best for this even, because it requires lots of rump action, never try it on a 16.3 warmblood it very humiliating (experience)

key races are a gaming event where the horse & rider must do a "Key hole" it like a O with a and an upside down U put together. you go into the U and make a complete circle and go back through the U. its hard to explain. here is a picture explaining the pattern.

Key Race, or Keyhole race is a western speed event.

Usually either 6 poles forming a narrow alley at the end of the arena that you have to run through, turn and run back - or a 'chalk' outline in the shape of a keyhole that you have to run through, turn around in without stepping out (DQ) and run back. If you knock a pole your DQ'd too.

a speed event/ pattern. there are 3 different ways to do it as far as i know...

1. four poles set up at end of arena, in a rectangle 6x10. you run down, go through, turn around, run thru and run home.

3. you use chalk or lime and make a circle at end of arena. you go down, go in, turn around, and go home.
