  2. medium format refers to still cameras that use a larger film. 35mm is one inch wide (not 35mm), and medium format typically uses a 2 inch (120 or 220) format film. Larger film means bigger/heavier lenses and a larger camera body. It use to be the prefered camera for wedding, magazine and advertisement work. Large format cameras use 4 or 8 inch film and really cannot be used easily outside of a studio. Medium format still has portabliltiy.
