  1. A blog is an online journal of your thoughts. People read blogs out of curiosity about other people's lives and opinions.

    Popular, free blogging services:

    Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com ), Wordpress (http://wordpress.com )and Livejournal (http://livejournal.com ).

I use Yahoo! 360, which is a free social networking service that features a blog (http://360.yahoo.com/kee_y360 ). Yahoo! 360 is designed to help people connect with friends/family or to meet new people. Since you have a Yahoo ID,  you can probably set one up too.

While logged into a yahoo service (mail, answers, whatever), type 360.yahoo.com in your web browser's address field (or just type 360 in a Yahoo! toolbar). Start creating your 360 space from there. Click the BIG YELLOW "Get Started" BUTTON on the far right section of that page. Click the "Yahoo! 360 Home" link on the upper right corner of the page to enter the space. For more details on how to set up elements of your 360 space, see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/ . Keep in mind that 360 is a beta service, so there are many bugs. If you have problems, check the Answers area or click on my avatar and scroll down to click on my "Starred Questions" tab.

See the 360 team post on "How to blog":

    Search for 360 blogs: http://360.yahoo.com/search.html .

NOTE: Y!360 is transitioning into a different social networking platform in the second half of 2008. There has not been a more specific date announced on the blog yet. Yahoo is trying to centralize its profiling services - Y!Mash, Y!360, and the regular Members profile - into one. See http://blog.360.yahoo.com/product_360 for more details. However, they are no longer fixing bugs related to Y!360, so there's no point in trying to contact them about it.

  2. It is an online log. You can use it for anything you want. It can be private or you can allow others to add to it. One major site that is free is http://www.blogger.com which is run by Google.

Yahoo also has blogs at its 360 site but it will be closed and replaced sometime later this year.
