Question:

What is a "good" score for the SAT Math I (for a competitive college)?

I recently took the Math I subject test and skipped 3 and got 3 wrong. That puts me at 720 max, and possibly lower. I'm not planning to take it again because the Math II matters the most to most good colleges, but will it look bad? Thanks.

  1. 720 is actually a pretty good score, as long as you score high on reading and writting

  2. For a competitive college, a 700 and above on the SAT II Math Level 1 would be decent.  For a top 10 college, you'd need at least a 750.  The thing with the SAT II Math Level 1 test is that the curve is incredibly small because a lot of people do well on it.  If you skipped 3 and got 3 wrong, that might put you well below 700.

How are you determining the 720 score?  Getting 3 wrong and omitting 3 might get you a 720 on the Math Level 2 because it has a much bigger curve than Level 1, but it definitely won't get you a 720 on the Level 1.
