  1. i'm not 100% sure on this, but they believe that Joseph Smith from Utah found these golden tablets from Jesus in his backyard and they had what everyone is supposed to do on them. but really, they believe in horrible things, like when you die, you get your own planet, and virgins and stuff. so its kinda creepy.

  2. stalkers on bike that rings everybody door bell

  3. Mormons are a very nice group of people who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!

What they believe can be viewed at lds.org, for correct and truthful information!

The majority of people on THIS site spend a good portion of their time asking insulting  and vindictive questions, and denigrating the LDS with outright lies!!

These pathetic people say that the LDS are not Christians, and that they are a cult!!

People who spend their time spreading poison, and spewing hate, are hardly qualified to claim that 'they are  the christians.

And the Mormon to moron thing?,is a mistake a 5 yr old might make, but for an adult to deliberately say it? shows a really low IQ~~

  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon you know the Osmonds.

  5. They are a sect of Christianity that have their own Book of Mormon that they follow. they go around trying to convert people into their religion. I have never read the book but i have a copy. They believe some vision story and something about finding golden plates with scriptures written on them....these plates conveniently where sent back to heaven..

To be honest and not to offend any mormons, its all a crock.

  6. http://www.mormon.org/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon

  7. I don't really see why everyone hates Mormons so much, I'm not one, but I live around a ton.  They're all nice people, just because they believe something different than everyone else doesn't make them bad.  If you honestly think that, then you're just as stupid as the Muslim Extremists who believe the exact same thing about you.  Anyway, enough ranting.  Just look them up on Wikipedia, or look up the Church of the Latter Day Saints.

  8. a Moron with an extra 'm'

  9. It's usually a nice, intelligent, family-oriented person who somehow has become convinced of the most idiotic bunch of obvious charlatanism ever to be accepted by a large number of people.

  10. You spelled it right.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

I'm one, the nick-name derrived from Mormon, an anchient prophet and compiler of sacred scripture found and translated by the modern-day prophet Joesph Smith to go hand in hand with the bible.  The term was originally used as a derrogatory term btu became so common that it's never left us.

mormon.org or lds.org are great places to read about us in temrs of our beliefs (contrary to the above comments we're not that different from other religions in our doctrine).  As far as who we are in society, there are 6,000,000 of us in the US, slightly larger than the US Jewish population and growing rapidly.  We wear clothes like eveyone else but try to be a bit more modest, work like everyone else but try to be a bit more honest, and answer question in yahoo like everybody else but try to be a bit more nice.

Feel free to email me and ask if you have any additional questions.

  11. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.

...and here's a terrible, but topical song.

  12. They are all very nice people, but deceived.

Attached is a vid about what they believe. They will deny this, but this is what their Book of Mormon teaches.

    Sad

eta: Nowhere am I trying to imply they are bad people. I have met some absolutely wonderful people that are Mormon! I think that many of them in all honesty do not at all understand what their church teaches. :/

  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon

    seriously, come on now...

  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon

They will say they are Christian, but they really are not.

  15. Mormons are members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (LDS).  They are called 'Mormons' because the Angel Moroni supposedly revealed their religion to them by way of Joseph Smith Jr. in 1827.

  16. Yeah, okay, hahaha, we've all had a laugh, and someone even brought up that old "moron with an extra m" thing that's been used oh, about a million times in the last twenty years. It seems the ol' sense of humour is alive and well here on R&S!!

Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The term "Mormon" comes from the Book of Mormon, which is a history of the ancient people of the Americas. (Mormon himself was a prophet who wrote part of the book.) We ARE Christians, we believe in Jesus Christ, the crucifixion, and the resurrection, and we recognize that Jesus Christ and the atonement are the only way back to our Father in Heaven. The Mormon Church is the same church that Jesus Christ himself started in ancient times, restored to the earth. (We have apostles, prophets, everything the ancient church had.)

You can find more information at the below websites.

EDIT: wtim, we do baptisms for the dead, we don't baptize the dead. (in case there's any wierd stories going around about corpses getting dunked.) They are done by proxy, as in, i would go and be baptized, but in the name of my great-great grandmother, or whoever.

Katie, I think you would benefit from checking out the below websites too.... you seem to have some strange ideas about my church. lds.org is the site for members, mormon.org is more a site for people who are curious about the church.

Melanie: there is a very small amount of truth in that video. the majority of it is false or incredibly embellished. have you considered actually talking to a church member about it?

  17. There are major differences between many of their beliefs and mainstream Christianity. They have the notion that the Mormon faith is the only true faith and all others are blasphemy. Joseph Smith is their prophet he "restored" the true Church of Christ on Earth. He received a revelation from an angel named Moroni, he was a Native American. He told Smith where to find golden plates and seer stones so he can translate it. No one has ever seen the golden plates. What Joseph Smith translated became the Book of Mormon, this is thought to be another testament of the Bible. They believed Native Americans are descendants of Israelites. That Jesus after his resurrection he visited the Native Americans and preached his word. Mormons believe Jesus is going to return to Missouri as well as Jerusalem. They also believed that there are different levels of heaven, the highest level being celestial kingdom. This is where good Mormons go and they believe they can attained Godhood. This doesn't mean they stop believed in their creator but they think they would receive the same gifts that God has. The church used to practice polygamy but repealed that in 1890. They also baptized the dead ( ask your friend about this) and have "Word of Wisdom" which means they don't smoke, drink, or have coffee. They get married in the temple where they are "sealed" for eternity, they believed that sealing them will unite their family in the celestial kingdom. Their Sunday service lasts for about 3 hours and they believed the Mormon President, -Thomas S. Monson - the modern day prophet. The Church was established in 1830 and has 12 million around the world. I'm not a Mormon but from what I read this is my understanding of their beliefs.

  18. It is a common name for a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  They prefer to be called "Latter Day Saints" and not "Mormons", and it is courteous to refer to them thus.

The nickname "Mormons" comes from the name of one of their prophets (Mormon) who they claim [erroneously] to have lived in America early in the first Christian millennium.  (I'm not going to look it up.  I'm sure an LDS will write and correct me if I'm wrong.)  They claim he wrote a book called "The Book of Mormon", which the LDS give equal status with the Bible.

Latter Day Saints have many beliefs which are not held by other Christians.  Indeed the mainstream Trinitarian Churches do not regard  LDS as Christians.  Amongst their unorthodox beliefs are that Native Americans are descendants of ancient Hebrews/Israelites who left Israel and sailed across the Atlantic before the time of Christ, and that Jesus visited America some time after he had ascended into heaven at Jerusalem.

The story of the discovery of The Book of Mormon is interesting and totally implausible. [Oh I'm handing a hostage to the atheists and freethinkers here!]

The founder of the LDS, Joseph Smith, claimed to have discovered some golden plates or tablets in 1823 which, so he said, had been buried in a hill near his home in Manchester, New York, and he was directed to their location by an angel named Moroni.  According to Smith, they were written in an otherwise unknown language called Reformed Egyptian.  He was given a mystical device which allowed him to read and translate the plates, which then mysteriously (and conveniently) disappeared - apparently taken away by the angel.

The book of Mormon was first published in March 1830 by Joseph Smith, Jr. as "The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi."

To everyone except LDS the Book is clearly an elaborate forgery.  Its writing style is similar to Early Modern English religious documents, especially the King James Version of the Bible.
