At an end of a month, should the total on the schedule of accounts payable equal the amount in the post closing trial balance for accounts payable? Why or why not?

  1. Schedule of accounts payable might also be called a Sub Ledger of the Accounts Payable account. In your ledger, the AP will only shows a $ balance. Your sub ledger will provide you more information, including but not limited detailed of your vendor name, address, AP balance, invoice details, invoice status etc2x.

    So, it's very crucial that the ending balance of both books ties up, if it doesn't then there's no need for the sub ledger. Why you would have all those detailed info if it can;t be trusted, because at the end the numbers you are going to report is the one in the ledger/ not sub ledger. Timely reconciliation is crucial in all Ledger-Sub Ledger situation (ie. AR, Inventory)
