I don't know if Fountain Valley is too far, but Herb's Black Forest Bakery is great.....

Or in Costa Mesa, French's Bakery on Baker Street

Beverly's Best in Brea has good cake and reasonable pricing. I've seen their work on my friend's wedding cake and I have another friend who orders birthday cakes from there frequently.

There's another place, but it's in San Pedro called Polly's that has really great prices- that's where I got my wedding cake done - really yummy too
