I don't want to take guitar lessons but I want to get one of those teach yourself books. I already play piano so I know a lot about music. I just want to know if anyone knows of a good book that helps you learn guitar easily. I want to play acoustic guitar and I have one but its warped. Should I get a new one? Or keep the one I have? My sister has 2 electrics so should I use those even though I want to play acoustic?

If you know anything about guitar, PLEASE tell me! Thanks for everything!

  1. Bert Weedon Learning Guitar is the classic all time used by Clapton,Harrison,Lennon,McCartney,Beck,G... and numerous other guitar legends. You need a new guitar. You don't have a guitar if your sis has two, man.I also learned with this but unfortunately my opus' have not been recognised as yet but will probably be posthumously.Good luck with the picking.

  2. Get yourself a decent acoustic guitar that is in good shape first. You say you don't want to take lessons but if you look at the listings for your community centre or continuing education at high schools etc. you will find lots of Guitar 1 or beginner courses. They are usually a small group of guitar students with an experienced guitar teacher who can get you started with the basics. Usually the price is very reasonable and works out to about $10 a lesson for about an hour or an hour and a half of instruction. And some even provide the instrument while you are in class. Really, you can't go wrong with that...

I would stay away from the electric guitar until you get good at the acoustic.

There are literally tons of books out there. Guitar for Dummies is one place you can start. If you want to learn the classical method ask for the volume 1 of Aaron Shearer's book - it's a standard that has stood the test of time...

    Hope this helps.

  3. Hi Courtney

Get Melbay guitar books. They are the simplest and cheapest available....

Here is the link for you. If your sister has electric guitar, learn on them as their is no difference and will be easier on the fingers.
