  1. 1) Im not sure what you mean by regular skates but ...Figure skates have toe picks at the front. this means we can jump taking off from our toe picks and its easier to balance and spin. Hockey skates are shorter so it is easier for them to get speed and stop quickly. they dont have the pick at the front because they dont need it and they would just fall over it.

    2) My favourite brand of boots that i would recomend to anyone is SP Teris. Personally i like them because i have really wide feet so they cater for my size. i also think they offer alot of support and ive never had a problem with them and they have generally been comfy. (For ice skates anyway)

there are many other brands however such as Edea - i would also recomend these.

If im honest it really depends on the skater and there are many things to consider such as; do you have experience in which case you need support - if your a beginner you wont need as much, do you have wide or skinny feet? unless you have an extreme you should be fine with any.

I would recomend seeing a professional  (the guy who sells you the boot) they can give you something to match your experience.

As you go through more boots and get better you will find you prefer one brand and will probibly stick to that. the posibilities arent endless but if you need you ccan get custom boots made specially for your feet :)

hope i helped and not just babbled on... :)

  2. Figure skates are thicker and stronger to help figure skaters to land their double and triple jumps. Plus the toe pick(which is the teeth on the tip of the blade) is bigger on figure skates so  that we can dig the toe pick into the ice easier to land our jumps.

The best two top brands of figure skates are Riedell, and Jackson skates.

    Hope I helped!

  3. My favorite is Sp-terri...

I ever use RF2 b4... It's comfy too but... those boots r for beginner...

  4. There is no such thing as "regular" ice skates.  Figure skates have toepicks, hockey skates have a circular blade and speedskates have especially long blades.  Depending on your level, many types of brands are good.  Riedell is good for beginners and people learning first jumps and spins.  They can also be used for higher level skaters.  If you are working on your axel or first double jumps, try Jackson Competitors. NEVER go for the skates with different colored laces, or skates that are not white, black, or tan.

  5. toe pics with regular ice skates there are no toe picks but if you want to figure skate you need the toe pick to jump and do edge work

  6. there is no difference. but figure skates come in all different levels of boots and blades.

i can tell that you are just starting. when your just starting you dont need $1,000 custom skates. they wont make you skate any better. actually, if you get skates that are too high or too low for your level it will effect your skating alot (in a bad way).

i would say get some off the internet. i love risports because they take so much less time to break in.  i would try to find something with the blade attached at first. also, ask your coach about skates and what they prefer, sometimes coaches will even be able to order them for you while you pay in advance.

  7. I think you mean recreational skates when you say regular ice skates. The difference is that figure skates are usually stronger built so skaters can land jumps and the toepicks are bigger then the toepicks on recreational skates. www.skatebuys.com has just the skates you're looking for so you can choose from that.

  8. I am a figure skater and compete all the time I had a count less pairs of ice skates and the only brand I use is Reidel they are amazing! They are expensive, but who cares I am rich and they are totally worth the cost!
