I decided to start playing tennis about 2 weeks ago and I've been to a few clinics and classes and absolutely love it! I am about to start taking private lessons thought and I want a really good racket. What is the best racket for me?

  1. This is a really great site for raquets

You cant expect to get a good raquet and pay lower then $70

    Start of with these choices

Because they are more for beginners-intermediate and have a bigger head size. As you get better in tennis you can buy a much more advanced raquet.

  2. The Wilson Hammer line is good. Go to a pro shop and borrow a couple different ones and see what you like before you buy.

  3. i started with a wilson but it cost 30 dollars and it got bent it couple of months.

Prince is a comfortable racquet u can find good strokes in for either advacned or beginners try it out.

the one u should use is shark midplus its under $70 and u can use it for a long time

  4. here is a whole list for beginners to help you get better

  5. For your age, and the fact that you just started out, you could probably handle something made for intermediates, or tweeners.  These are still fairly lightweight, but are heavier than a straight up beginners racquet.

I would look for something between 10 and 11 oz.  If you think you could handle the weight, go more on the higher side of things.  Basically, as you improve, you will want to get a heavier and heavier racquet.  If you start off with something that's already on the heavier side, you'll save yourself having to buy another racquet for a little longer.  But you don't want it to be so heavy that you can't swing it well.  Now, at your age, I was under 100 lbs, and I got a 12 oz racquet, and it worked fine.  So you could even go heavier than 11 oz, but I'm not sure I recommend it.

Also, since this most likely won't be the last racquet you buy, I wouldn't look to buy one of the newest racquets that costs 200 bucks.  There's plenty of good, older models that will save you money. Check out this page:

These used to be the "new thing" a couple years ago, and would have cost almost 200 back then.  Now, you can get most of them for $70-100.  Some on that list you might look into:

    Head liquidmetal radical oversize

    Prince Shark Midplus

    Head Flexpoint Heat

    Wilson nSix-two midplus

    Prince Air O-Scream

    Dunlop M-fil 400

    Prince O3 Hybrid Shark Oversize

Any of these should work well for you for a while, and they will save you some money.

Unfortunately, nobody can tell you what's best for you.  Racquet choice can't be narrowed 100% to a formula-based decision.  Lots of it is completely personal.  Normally, I'd suggest demoing racquets first, but since you're just a beginner, it would be a waste of time.  Just choose something that looks good to you.

You might also wait and ask your private coach about the racquet situation.  He/she would be able to see how you play and could give you a better assessment of what to look for.

  6. since your a beginner, i recommend using an oversized racket because it would be easier to hit. try an oversized wilson nCode.

  7. buy an oversized racquet. try Head Ti S6 Liquidmetal Edition with Head Synthetic Gut 18 strung at 55 lbs. you might also consider Wilson nCode n1 strung with Wilson Sensation 17 at 58 lbs. these two racquets should be at some lower price since they are released some years ago but they are still good to begin with. go to a shop and demo the racquets first before buying. hope it helps :)

  8. I would suggest a Head Flexpoint because they are execellent rackets and cheap. They have a really soft feel and create some power so go for that.
