What is a reasonable charge to stretch shoes?

I picked up two pairs of shoes this morning at the shoemaker. I paid to have them stretch because they were fitting too tight. I paid $8 a pair. Is this about right for this type of job? I live in NYC.

well i got a pair of shoes and they were extremely tight yet they were my size, i was told to purchase a leather stretching spray which you spray in the shoes and immediately wear them, and it worked! i bought the spray from clarks ( a shoe shop in London) but im sure you can purchase that spray anywhere. i paid £3 i think,
