I got married last August and my husband and I are still trying to figure out a stable food budget. We have a really big problem with not buying meal foods, we buy things which are individual and we run out of food fast, and then we always resort to fast food or eating out which is expensive...We know it's not good for our health or our cash. Does anyone have anything that can help????

  1. I got this from a tv show on TLC..

Every week put your food money in a jar .. lets say 150 dollars.

and that is ALL you can spend during that week on food no matter what!

you can also have jars for transportation, miscelanious, clothes etc..

if you set it out like that it should be easier to follow through with it.

  2. My budget is 200 for 2 people weekly. It's plenty!

  3. I spend 100€ a week for the 2 of us. Different currency but budget tips are budget tips no matter where we are :)

I always scan what's on offer at my local supermarket next week, and plan my meals around that. I also buy bottles of wine, juice, canned and frozen food in bulk when there is an offer. Hope this helps, good luck.

  4. Feeding two should be relatively easy.  Buying in bulk will cure part of the problem. Cooking is the other part. It takes time to judge how much you should cook. Buy a small chest type freezer, fill it a little at a time, that way you don't have to run out every Friday for groceries. Invest in a couple of cook books and experiment. All newly weds go thru the same thing. I ate mistakes for the first 2 years!

  5. for 2 people 100 per week should do. try finding a winco in your area. they are very affordable

  6. Some of these answers are WOW! I cannot believe anyone spends $200 a week on groceries for just 2 people! And I don't think buying in bulk is a good idea for 2 unless you have a freezer and lots of pantry room.

We spend about $75 on FOOD at the grocery in a week. Now, we do eat out a couple times a week, at about $35 to $45 each time. Sometimes less. I cook so I buy eggs, flour, gravy mixes, fresh potatoes, fresh veggies, rice, etc. I make like a pot of spaghetti sauce, and we eat that twice during the week. So, those are just hints. We are empty nesters instead of just starting out. I also buy big bags of frozen chicken b*****s and use that in all sorts of dishes. Campell soups are good to have around to make dishes with also. And we also always have fresh shrimp and fish in our freezer. Shrimp and fish are plentiful here. Depending on where you live, I would budget about $100 to $125 a week. Food costs in Louisiana is fairly reasonable.

  7. yeah before we had a family my husband and I probably spent right around $200/month, but then again we went out to eat about once a week and that wasn't included in that!

  8. on payday you and you husband should put up 150 a pace if you and him get pay ad 2time a mouth den that 600$ dollars that a allot of food for 2 me and my girlfriend don that

  9. sit down...plan your meals for the week...each meal you plan list all the items needed to prepare that meal...do that for every meal for the entire week..list all the items on one sheet..also check your  sugar, flour etc. what ever you are low on list it..also snacks, bottled water, soft drinks....this is your grocery list
