I would like to tutor kids in math since I love the subject. I want this experience as I would like a career change and think this would be a good way to gain relevant experience. What do you think I should charge per hour?

  1. I paid my tutor 10 dollars for an hour and it was for math.

  2. I am a high school teacher and I tutor students in SAT prep.  I charge between $25 and $50 per hour.

The reason there is a range is because I offer discounted rates for multiple students in one home or for extended agreements.

For example, if a parent wants me to come on a weekend, one time, for a couple of hours, just to review before the SAT, I would charge $50 per hour.

However, if a parent wants continued help for an entire semester, say three to five hours a week for a month, I would charge less.

The absolute least I charge is if two or more students (sometimes siblings in a single home, sometimes parents who have formed study groups, sometimes homeschool groups) want to meet together in one location for a review session.  Then, I charge $25 per student, per hour.

  3. Are you certified by the state you live in as a teacher?  If you are then you can charge between 30 and 50 dollars an hour.  If you are not certified, no more than 20.00.

  4. As a guide, teachers in our district get $33 an hour (certified) and non-certified get $25 for hourly work.
