I got in a traffic accident in Hillsboro Oregon. My car had to be towed to the towing company about 7 miles away. What is a reasonable price for this? Also, is $30 a day for storage reasonable? And are there laws limiting what a towing company can charge? Who can I call for questions?

Thanks.

  1. Your best bet is to call another towing company in the Hillsboro area and ask them what their pick up rate, mileage rate, and storage fees are. While I haven't dealt with fees for many years, $30 for daily storage seems like it would be the industry standard these days.

Another place to check is with your insurance agency. Even if you don't have coverage for the accident, they will be able to tell you what rate they allow for such services. I suspect you will find that the towing company is charging rates that are compareble to other companies in the area. Hopefully you have insurance that covers this service. I don't know of any Oregon law that limits what rates can be charged either.

I can tell you that ambulance rates would be over $1000 for the pickup and a fee of about $15 per mile from the scene to the hospital. More if advanced care was necessary.
