Many bike shops follow the suggested retail price, but I've noticed that with Trek dealers it's pretty common for them to price them 10% to 20% below that figure.    Compare that to Specialized dealers that are forced to sell at the suggested retail whether they want to or not.   Unfortunately, it looks like the industry is going that way with restrictive contracts and protectionist policies.  

I agree with Mirage, though....most bike shops don't make much on their bikes.  Accessories and repairs are where they make their money.  It doesn't hurt to ask for a discount, but you may not get anywhere...sometimes they even get pissy about it.  Definitely don't expect any big discounts like you're used to seeing with automobile sales.   lol.   :o)

The "out the door" price on your bike might just include sales tax.   If you need any other things (helmet, spare tubes, patch kit, pump, etc. etc.) you'll add all of that to the cost.  When they fit you to the bike (be sure you do that!!!) they may or may not charge you a little to swap with a different stem length or saddle.  Some shops do, some don't.

A reasonable price would be $1099.00. Dealers make comparatively little money on bike sales. Don't try to cut their nuts off by asking for a discount.

Maybe they'll give you a free water bottle.

Try asking your local Trek dealer.  Let them know what other items you're interested in purchasing at the same time, so they will have something to work with.  Then simply ask what's the best they can do for you on the total.  Maybe it's a water bottle, or maybe free adjustments/tune-up, or maybe no sales tax, or maybe more...or less.  Expect nothing and you may be pleasantly surprised.  Expect a closeout deal or make a low-ball offer and you'll both feel awkward.
