This summer I will be babysitting two children. They are 9 and 12 years old. I will be responsible to taking them to activities during the week as well. I will be working 30-40 hours a week. I am 20 years old and going to be an elementary teacher. How much money should I ask for an hour?

Thankss!

  1. I would call around to the daycares in your area and see what they would charge for two kids that age. I would charge them at least that maybe a little more because you are going to be useing your car and gas to take them places. you have to consider wear and tear on your car things like that because you are going to be using it for them. I wouldn't tell them you were considering that but I would figure it in the price. If they say something I would bring up the price of gas if they are not giving you extra for that all ready. anybody has to know people are going to want something for that at the prices it is right now.

  2. i would say a little more that min wage just because of the fact that gas prices are getting crazy lately as we all know so you want to get paid a reasonable amount for the commute also and taking the children wherever for the activities i think thats only fair

  3. I know this may seem shallow but I would base it on how much money the parents make.. if they are very wealthy and make a butt load of $ then I would charge them a butt load of $. But if they are just your average joes then I would charge them a lower fee. Thats just my opinion.

to get a round about figure though, I would get in your yellow pages and look up other nanny services, call them , act like you need a babysitter and see how much they charge! then you can get an idea of what to ask for!

    Good Luck!

  4. I was going to be paid $225/wk to watch a 2 y.o, 4 y.o. all day and then a 13 y.o. after school.  So maybe $200/wk?  A 9 y.o. and 12 y.o. should not be to difficult at all.

  5. I would say 10-12 an hour

  6. I would say minimum wage.

  7. About $10 per hour.

  8. About $10 per hour. Kids at this age don't require a lot of care, just supervision.

  9. I used to ask $7 an hour for two older kids, or $8 an hour if I was doing mother help work as well like washing or preparing meals. Hope that helps. (Also, if your driving them to activites make sure you talk to the parents about getting money for gas!).

  10. I would say minimum wage or a dollar high. Have fun babysitting!

  11. I am 21 and I babysit part time.  I also have early ed schooling.  I charge $10-$15 per hour  ($15 if I am paying for my own gas and using my car to transport children to activities).  What area are you in?  You could always check out some nanny sites in your area and see what the going rate is.
