I would check this site. I did a quick search for May,June and Oct travel from Sacramento to Cancun and it looks like the cheaper flights are 2 stops and the more expensive flights are one stop. The price ranges from $460-$600 with taxes and fees.

You can always check the airline websites, sometimes they are cheaper. Also, check with your local travel agencies. Often they have contracts with the airlines and they get bulk rates. It's always cheaper to book land and air together. You can save several hundreds of dollars.
