What is a region code 2 dvd player

Question

I want to by a dvd player but i dont know what code is appropriate ,some one suggested me for multiregional because my dvds are indian but most of the dvd specifecations says that it is region code 2 ( what does that mean) please tell me what is it? and is code 2 is ok for indian kind of dvds.Thanks
