I am currently in the hunt for a used sit-on-top crossover/recreational kayak, and wanted to know a good place that will give guidance on what type of kayak model is good for me (based on my needs/interest). Anybody know of a place that will take the time to help out rather than taking your money quick and seein you out the door? Wanted to start kayaking in Mission Bay then move up to paddling in La Jolla.

I checked http://www.aqua-adventures.com and kayaksandiego.com.

Any San Diegan help would be great! Cheers!

  1. As you already located, Aqua Adventures is the way to go.  The most complete kayak shop I've found in San Diego, hands down.

If you need guidance in boat selection, start at a website called Paddling.net.  They have excellent boat reviews - both by the factory description, and they have user reviews.  The website has excellent forums and you can quickly narrow your choices down.   The "Guidelines" section of the site has excellent articles that can help you make the right choice.

Find a few models that interest you online, then try a few rentals at Aqua Adventures.  You can test those models out and see which suits you the best.

There are used SOTS on Craigslist San Diego all the time - and you should be able to pick up a decent one for under $500 easily.

Love to paddle Mission Bay - the fireworks paddles are great!
