2 mile run-15 mile bike ride-3.1 mile run

This is my first one. I was using a mountain bike out of ignorance. My finish time was 1:34 minutes. I finished 40/61.

  1. The first one or two is never about time but finishing.

Once you get a few under your belt you will of found out what your strong and weak points are. Now the task is to work on the weak points.

  2. That's a reasonable finish and will automatically improve with little effort once you use a road bike

  3. that is a good time - a good time for you may not be for someone else. look at your run splits. if you can manage to save a few seconds per mile, you can figure your time that way. for example, my last tri i had 7:35 min miles in the run. i would love to get that down to 7:30. do the same for you bike splits (or your time per mile). if you can go 15 mph for 15 miles. maybe try to shoot for 16 mph. then factor in your transition times, add it all up and you can have a decent idea on what a respectable time for you is! also are you wearing clipless shoes? i am doing a sprint triathlon next month and with shorter distances i am just going to wear my running shoes with old style toe clips. this will save a lot of time in transition. also, take into consideration the terrain you are racing on. i did a tri last year with lots of hills and a trail run - your times will be slower if you are racing on this type of terrain. plus i saw your question about bikes - sounds like you are going to get off that mtn bike soon. that will help some too. anyway - have fun, tris and dus are so much fun. bottom line give it your all every minute of the race and you will feel like you did your best. i was kicking myself after my first tri because i was taking it too easy and missed thrd (in my age group) by 10 seconds!
