I am taking my gf to Chicago for her bday and I have a suite reserved at The Palmer House Hilton downtown Chicago, and just need some ideas of things to do, some romantic ideas on places to eat, fun clubs, and ultimately a hot spot to propose. I somewhat like the idea of Buckingham Fountain but heard may be under construction...but also would like to get some other back up ideas. Thanks!

  1. Buckingham Fountain is nice, but you might also consider Millenium Park, just north of the Art Institute.  The whole place is beautiful.  And, while it's a bit cliche, the Signature Lounge atop the John Hancock Building is amazing.

  2. Go to iggys its a place downtown but it very peacefully

  3. Buckingham backfired on my brother. A carriage took them around it and it was not running.

My other brother did it at the Signature room at the Hancock. AWESOME place. You cannot beat it.

Gran Lux is a very very nice place, but I don't know about proposal...

  4. Here you go:

    Best Romantic Restaurants in Chicago:

    Good luck!

  5. I would say either the Signature Room, great place. Or Everest which is further South in the Loop. The views and food at Everest are fantastic. If you choose either be sure to make a reservation and ask for a window table. A little trivia for you, the lounge at the Signature Room is one floor above and not very crowded. If you wish to propose there call ahead and inform them of your intentions they will help you. A last piece of trivia. Starting on Memorial Day and every weekend thereafter Navy Pier shoots off fireworks. You can see them clearly at the Signature Room. It would be great to go to the restaurant, and propose just as the fireworks go off. Just a thought. Good luck!!

  6. How about the Signature room at the John Hancock Building? I think that would be a great place to propose.. its nice, overlooks the city and just romantic...

  7. The Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier is a great spot if it is warm enough.

  8. I recommend the Grand Lux Cafe on Michigan Avenue.

  9. What about dinner/dancing on one of the cruise ships out of Navy Pier?   I can imagine that this could be quite romantic.  Haven't done it myself but have heard it is really special.

  10. the atwood cafe might be what you're looking for. the decor has lots of dark wood and it's very stately. i'd recommend the scallops and the banana bread pudding with white chocolate.
