I've heard it alot, but what it is, i heard somebody say, a root canal is the MOST painfull thing ANYBODY, can have. I mean i have had 4 wisdom teeth taken out, and 2 babies, so it's hard for me to think a root canal is worse then that. But i don't know what it is. lol

  1. It's when a person has a large cavity that can't be repaired by a simple filling because it will be too big and cause pain.

They will basically remove all the nerves and put a cap or two over it. The first one is temporary and usually silver and will last until they can put the white permanent on.

It is NOT painful. I've had two. The only thing that scary is the needle they use to numb your entire mouth. You don't feel a thing. I got my first one in 8th grade. The dentist gave me head phones and I got to listen to music the entire time until I fell asleep.

I may last a while depending on your dentist, but it's not as painful as people lead you to believe.

  2. A root canal is done when there is an infection in the pulp, or inner chamber of the tooth. The pulp contains blood vessels and nerves and runs through the roots of your teeth. During a root canal, the dentist removes the pulp of the tooth and fills the empty space with a substance called gutta percha.
